Update: Our 10th event is done!

We are truly humbled by how many people came last Sunday March 15 to the 10th Step2000, despite the current challenging conditions with the Coronavirus affecting Hong Kong and the rest of the world. Families, children, old friends, new friends all came...and of course Sky, the lovely dog.

On the day itself, we raised about HK$18,620. Since then, some more donations have been trickling in from generous people and we are currently standing at around HK$23,420 (and JPY3,000).

We will keep collecting your kind donations until the last day of March, after which we shall submit the donations to the 'Akai Hane' (translates approximately to 'Red Feather') programme, established to help affected children continue their schooling and complete their education. One more thank you goes to the kind team who took the opportunity to clean the trail - they brought a bag which they filled with garbage collected along the way!

東日本大震災の被災地に寄り添いたいという思いを同じにしたみんなが集まり、第10回目のStep2000 For Tohokuチャリティーハイキングを開催しました。イベント当日に集まった寄付金は18620ドルと3000円、そしてその後もハイキングに来られなかった人たちからも寄付金を託され、本日までの集金額23420ドル（と3000円）となっています。今月まで寄付を募って震災遺児修学資金」のサポートを行なっている『赤い羽根共同基金』https://www.akaihane.or.jp/josei/#01に送金いたします。今年のハイキングでは、仲間が、ゴミ袋、手袋、トングを持参し、トレイルの清掃をして地元の人たちからも感謝されていました。

It's 2020 - time for the 10th Step2000 event!

It has been ten years that we started Step2000. Come and help us one more time!

It was on March 11, 2011 at 2:46 in the afternoon that a magnitude 9 earthquake struck off the coast of Tohoku, Japan. Almost 16,000 people died, 2,562 went missing, and more than 6,000 were injured. 

And 1,808 children lost one or both parents.

That very year, in 2011, we decided to organise a fund-raising event here in Hong Kong for ten years after the event to try to help. Since that year we have raised more than HK$1,000,000. We have given the money to a number of charities: 'Support of Kids' programme (2019), 'Michinoku Mirai Foundation' (2018), '3.11 Jyuku' (2017), 'Hatachi Foundation' (2016), 'UNESCO' (2015), 'Save the Children' (2014), 'Momokaki' (2013), 'Ashinaga' (2012), and the 'Red Cross' (2011).

Whatever amount we are able to raise this year, we will have done our very best to provide some support to these children.

On Sunday March 15, at 14h30, we're gathering in Repulse Bay (Google Street View) at the bottom of the stairs leading up from HK International School (map). This year again, we aim to climb to the top of the Twins (Ma Kong Shan - 孖崗山). 

Note: For those who find the stair climb too tough, there is an easier flat course along the catch water to Stanley.

2011年3月11日、巨大地震が発生、大津波が東北、北関東の沿岸を襲いました。２万人近い命が失われ、そして2000名近い児童が震災孤児となりました。
その震災から9年が経ちました。Step2000 For Tohokuは、子どもたちが様々な悲しみや困難を抱えながらも周りの支援を受けながら心の傷が回復していくことを願い、香港からその想いを被災地へ届けたいとチャリティーウォークを震災直後から開催、被災した子どもたちを支援する団体へ寄附してきました。
これまでSupport Our Kids』2019年、『みちのく未来基金』2018年、『3.11塾』2017年、『ハタチ基金』2016年、『日本ユネスコ協会』2015年、『セーブ⚫︎ザ⚫︎チルドレン　ジャパン』2014年、『桃柿育英会』2013年、『あしなが育英会』2012年、『日本赤十字』2011年に寄付金を送金してきました。今年10回目となるチャリティーウォークStep2000は「東日本大震災により死亡、又は行方不明の両親、父、母、又は親以外の方に養育されていた震災遺児で、小学校、中学校、高等学校、高等専門学校、特別支援学校、専修学校、大学（短期大学を含む）に在学中の方に震災遺児修学資金」のサポートを行なっている『赤い羽根共同募金』に寄付先に決定しました。詳しくは　https://www.akaihane.or.jp/josei/#01

例年通り、今年もStep2000は3月15日午後2時30分、レパルスベイにある香港インターナショナルスクールアッパー小学部（ South Bay Close, Repulse Bay)から少し山側のツイン山（孖崗山）に続く階段前に集合し、東日本大震災発生時刻の２時４６分に黙祷を捧げたいと思います。（注：ツイン山の階段がきついと思われる方には、平坦な易しい階段回避コースを用意しています。）地図をこちらにリンクしています。

We have heard from our donation recipient!

We are thrilled to share with you that we have now donated JP¥ 516,000 (approx. USD4,610) to the charity 'Support Our Kids' in Tokyo. This organisation collaborates with embassies from 12 countries to send children (404 of them to date) to experience life in one of these countries to help them acquire leadership skills and inspire them to help in the reconstruction of Tohoku. The focus is primarily on children who are still living under stressful conditions. As a result, we have received a heart-warming thank you letter from them. We have attached their note below. Again, thank you for the amazing help you have all lent.

2019年Step2000 For Tohokuイベントでは香港で36790香港ドル（515,659円）日本で3,000円の寄付が集まり516,000円をSupport Our Kidsに送金しました。Support Our Kidsはひとりでも多くの子ども達に機会を提供できるよう税制上の寄付金控除の認定資格（認定NPO法人）（「寄付総額3,000 円以上の寄付者が年間で100名以上であること」の条件）を取得するため寄付を1口3,000円からお願いされているので172口(516000円）の寄付となりましたが残金の2659円は第10回Step2000 For Tohoku 2020年へ繰り越させていただきます。Support Our Kids 実行委員会から感謝のお手紙をいただきました。

We are so thrilled to share with you that by raising HK$36,290 in 2019, we have officially broken the symbolic mark of HK$1,000,000 raised for Tohoku to date. 2019年Step2000 For Tohokuではチャリティーウォークとイベントに参加できなかった方からの寄付のお申し出分を合わせて36290ドルになりました。今年の目標としていた第1回目からの累積寄付額100万香港ドルを達成することができました！

Step2000 is here! Let's break 1 million!

Eight years ago, we started Step2000. Now, the time has come to help again!

On March 11, 2011 at 2:46 in the afternoon, a magnitude 9 earthquake struck off the coast of Tohoku, Japan. Almost 16,000 people died, 2,562 went missing, more than 6,000 were injured. 1,808 children lost one or both parents.

In 2011 we decided to organise an event here in Hong Kong for ten years after the event to try to help as best we could. Since that year we have raised more than HK$980,000. We have given the money to several charities: 'Michinoku Mirai Foundation' (2018), '3.11 Jyuku' (2017), 'Hatachi Foundation' (2016), 'UNESCO' (2015), 'Save the Children' (2014), 'Momokaki' (2013), 'Ashinaga' (2012) and the 'Red Cross' (2011). 

In 2019, we would like to help the "Support our Kids" programme, established to nurture affected children to become future leaders of the reconstruction efforts needed by the Tohoku region. Read more here: http://support-our-kids.org/about-en/

Step2000 for Tohoku 2018で集まった寄付金の受領証とお礼状が『みちのく未来基金』から届きましたので
皆さまにご報告します。これまでに『みちのく未来基金』を通じて奨学金を受け取った『みちのく未来基金生』は合計727名だそうです。親を震災で亡くすという困難に負けずに夢に向かって歩めるように、そしてこの子供たちが、将来、日本を担っていってくれることを期待しています。
